Why My Content is Being Shadow Banned & How You Can Stay Connected.
A lot of my posts don’t reach as many people as they should. It’s because. I’ve been dealing with shadow banning, which means my content is being suppressed by social media algorithms, making it harder for my audience to see my posts.
This is especially frustrating because my goal is to share valuable health and wellness information, yet platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn are limiting my reach. So, let’s talk about why this happens, how big pages avoid it, and how you can still stay connected with me.
Why Is My Content Being Shadow Banned?
Social media platforms have strict content moderation rules, especially when it comes to health and wellness topics. Even though I don’t post misinformation, certain words or topics trigger algorithmic suppression. Here’s why my posts may not be reaching you:
- Health-Related Content Sensitivity; Words like “health,” “well-being,” “cure,” “alternative medicine,” or anything remotely related to natural healing can trigger automatic content moderation.
- Pharmaceutical Industry Influence; The big pharmaceutical industry (Big Pharma) plays a major role in shaping health information on social media. Many of the biggest platforms partner with pharmaceutical companies and health organizations that favor conventional medicine over natural alternatives. This means that content promoting holistic health, natural remedies, or alternative treatments is often flagged, suppressed, or labeled as “misinformation” to protect their financial interests.
- Spam Filters & Algorithmic Flagging – If my posts contain repeated mentions of my company name (which has “health” and “well-being” in it), the algorithm may assume it’s promotional or spammy content.
- Strict Scrutiny on Wellness & Alternative Health – Platforms like Facebook and Instagram aggressively limit health-related content, even when it’s backed by research.
- Misinformation Policies & Fact-Checking – Even when my posts are factual, they can be flagged for “misleading information” if they challenge mainstream health narratives.
- Hashtag Restrictions – Some hashtags related to health & wellness are restricted or monitored more closely, making it harder for posts to be discovered. E.g.#healthy #wellness, #nutritiontips, #fitnessmotivation, #naturalcures, #vaccinesafety, #holistichealing, #naturalimmunity, #alternativemedicine, #detox, #weightlossjourney, #fasting, #cancercures.
- Limited Visibility Due to Engagement Drops – If fewer people engage with my posts (due to previous shadow banning), the algorithm assumes my content isn’t relevant and shows it to even fewer people.
Why Big Pages Don’t Get Shadow Banned as Much.
Big health & wellness influencers don’t face the same level of suppression. Here’s why:
- Higher Engagement & Visibility – Large pages already have massive followings, which makes it harder for platforms to completely suppress their reach.
- Paid Verification & Advertising – Many big pages pay for ads and X (Twitter) Premium, which gives them algorithmic boosts.
- Fact-Checking is Less Aggressive – Instead of outright bans, big pages may just get a warning label instead of being fully shadow banned.
- Established Trust with Platforms – Well-known brands and influencers have a history with social media platforms, making them less likely to be flagged as spam or misinformation.
- Pharma-Friendly Content – Many large pages that discuss health and medicine align with mainstream medical guidelines, making them less likely to be shadow banned.

Shadow banning is real, and it’s affecting how many of you see posts from small pages. Social media is making it harder for us; small health & wellness creators to share valuable information, but we don’t have to let them control the conversation.
