My Healing Journey: Shrinking Fibroids & Trusting My Gut (Literally)

2 years ago, during a routine check-up, I had an ultrasound that revealed a 6.8mm fibroid. TIny, no big deal. Fast forward a year, and it had grown to 7mm. Okay, still not exactly alarming. A few weeks ago, another check-up showed that my fibroid had jumped to 1.8cm, a whopping 10mm increase! I am not panicking, it is still small.

The doctor was cool too , “It’s tiny, nothing to worry about,” he assured me. “We’ll monitor it. Come back in two years.”

Excuse me, TWO YEARS?!

“But doctor,” I protested, “it grew 10mm in just one year! (Normal growth would be 1-2mm in a year!) Wouldn’t it grow a lot more in two years?”

He basically told me that 1.8cm wasn’t big enough to warrant surgical removal. And what I heard was: Come back when it’s a bigger problem.

Well, I had other plans. I told him I’d be back in six months. Not to check if it had grown enough for surgery, but to prove that I had shrunk it naturally. That’s the difference in perspective. Western medicine often says watch and wait, but I believe in act and heal.

The Dairy Dilemma: Connecting the Dots

Now, here’s the twist. Before even walking into that doctor’s office, I knew the fibroid had grown. And here’s why: for over 15 years, I was lactose intolerant. I avoided dairy like the plague, except for cheese (because let be real, cheese is life).

Two years ago, I tried to swap oat milk (which, is basically liquid sugar and as bad as coke) for dairy milk in my cappuccino. That led to a slippery slope. Over the last six months, I became obsessed with bubble tea, organic ingredients, they claimed. But even organic dairy still contains naturally occurring estrogen. I was having 2-3 servings of dairy a day, whether through cappuccinos or bubble tea. Oh, and let’s not forget my newfound love for butter (free-range organic, but still) on a toast bread with a sprinkle of honey.

Could I really be sure that all this dairy wasn’t affecting me? Not really. But I was 100% convinced estrogen in dairy was the culprit behind the growing fibroid.

What Are Fibroids Anyway?

Fibroids are non-cancerous growths in or around the uterus, and they love estrogen. When your body has excess estrogen, whether from diet, stress, or environmental toxins, fibroids thrive. They can cause bloating, heavy periods, pelvic pain, and even fertility issues. The problem is, they often go unnoticed until they get big enough to cause real trouble.

Had I not been someone who regularly checks in on my health, I might have discovered the fibroid years later, when the only option would have been surgery.

The Takeaway: Be Proactive, Not Passive

So what’s the lesson here?

  • Go for regular check-ups. Catch things early when they’re still manageable.
  • Don’t rely solely on conventional medicine. Doctors are great at managing symptoms, but true healing comes from addressing the root cause.
  • Listen to your body. If something feels off, it probably is.
  • Avoid anything that mimics estrogen: Whether it is dairy, plastics, receipts, canned food linings, your beauty and household products, some birth control pills, soy, conventional meat etc…
  • Healing is possible, and I’m on a mission to naturally shrink this fibroid.

Your body is always communicating with you, through symptoms, cravings, and energy levels. The question is: Are you listening?

Have you had fibroids diagnosis? How are you managing it?
